Chew (2016)
It is like endless chewing on cotton balls / Mouth stuffed to the brim, full and empty at once / Protected and harmed at once
I am a self-sufficient organism / Like those at the bottom of the sea / I live simply to be, I stay alive for good measure
I am on the brink of being machine, automaton, or toy / But I keep on keeping on
These days I stay in bed for hours awake and not / I walk along the edge of my dreams and my waking state / Like walking the shore of the ocean and following the waves / In and out, on and off, far and near, / Nothing disturbs my deep mindless slumber
The click of my jaw as I chew on my cotton balls, / Like the ticking of a clock / Still stuffed, still continuing / Blindly continuing / A product of time, no end and no beginning
materials: mouth-made felt, buckram, and millinery wire
